Young cyclist Josh Yeaton outsprinted Peter Basinger over the final two miles to win Saturday's 60-mile Chitna to McCarthy mountain bike race by 12 seconds.

Yeaton, 17, finished in 3 hours, 20 minutes, 9 seconds, while Eeva Latosuo won the women's race in 3:53:53.

In wet conditions, competitors negotiated the potholed, washboard-laden roads from Chitna to the Kennicott River Bridge in McCarthy. The race was part of McCarthy's Fat Tire Festival.
