"It was our first mountain bike race of the season and our new Race Director Shareen Crosby sent a record 46 racers up the 6-mile route to the top of Arctic Valley. The weather was dry, and a bit chilly, but tolerable."

Novakovich, 30, finished in 38 minutes, 51 seconds, over a course with an average average grade of 6.5 percent. He finished 1:50 ahead of men's master winner, Tony Turrini.

In the women's sport class, Aubrey Mequevilley finished first in 55:12, topping Gina Turrini and Suzanne Wheatall by less than two minutes.
